Peter Weir’s adaptation of one of Patrick O'Brian’s acclaimed Master and Commander novels is set during the height of the Napoleonic Wars and follows the legendary Captain Jack Aubrey. With Napoleon’s forces threatening Britain after conquering much of Europe, Captain Aubrey (Russell Crowe) and the crew of the HMS Surprise are sent into the Pacific to intercept French warships. When Aubrey encounters a powerful renegade French super-frigate, the HMS Surprise launches into a relentless pursuit, leading to an adrenaline-charged chase across the distant and dangerous reaches of the sea.
